Upgrading American Education
Systemic changes will improve the quality and efficiency of learning. Communication technologies used in home and business will increase motivation and accommodate student differences. Tutors will make learning more effective. A student-centered plan will integrate the results of a century of successful educational research.
James D. Finn labeled education as a cottage industry based on manual processes for teaching and learning that have been used for centuries. This e-book uses technology, tutors, systems, and projects to substantially increase efficiency and effectiveness, and recover America’s position as an international leader in education. The plan integrates research in communication, education, and related disciplines, discoveries and innovations, and the author’s sixty-five years of experience in American Education. It is designed for transition without disruption.
Sixty years ago, the United States was a world leader in education. By 2018 it had fallen to #22 on the PISA scale. A long history of failing to invest in education and failure to adopt modern teaching methods explains its decline. This paper explores options to enrich learning and recover America as a leader in education. This plan can be adapted to enhance education in other nations.
